Community Service

Service is a big part of the culture at Blue Ridge School. We integrate it into our curriculum, into our Character Education program, and into the boy’s lives. By providing on- and off-campus opportunities to engage with Central Virginia’s non-profit organizations and other services, boys learn both the relevance and reward of acting outside of themselves.

• LOCAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES. The boys tutor local school children, perform music at local churches, volunteer at the food bank, and volunteer with the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. In addition, they have prepared thousands of meals for Rise Against Hunger, and our Honor Council members have been raising money for Greene County Women’s Club Christmas Fund for more than four decades.
• OFF-CAMPUS TRIPS. Each year the boys have an opportunity to travel on multi-day excursions to build their own characters and provide service around the region. These Rites of Passage Expeditions (ROPEs) community service trips lead them to work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Youth Service Opportunities Project (YSOP) where they might help build homes, plant community gardens, feed the hungry, spend time with senior citizens, or provide other service work to the region.
